Apple's iPhone 15 Might Be More Expensive Than Its Predecessors

We’re just weeks away from an expected iPhone 15 launch, and the rumor mill is buzzing about what Cupertino might have in store for us this year.

There’s a chance this year’s iPhone Pro models might be more expensive than last year’s versions. According to Barclays analyst Tim Long, Apple may add $100-$200 to their base prices to cover the cost of new features. That would put the iPhone 15 Pro at $1,099 and the iPhone 15 Pro Max at $1,299, MacRumors reports.

In his weekly PowerOn newsletter, meanwhile, Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman runs through some other iPhone rumors. A lot of it we've heard before, but one of the biggest updates will be that we’ll say farewell to the notch in favor of a Dynamic Island on the standard iPhone 15. Currently limited to the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, the Dynamic Island turns the notch into an interactive feature.

Gurman says the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max displays will be made with something called low-injection pressure over-molding—dubbed LIPO by Apple employees. That technology is currently used in the Apple Watch and will allow the phone to have a smaller border (from 2.2mm to 1.5mm).

Gurman says the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will have a similar look to the current models. But as expected, they’ll charge via USB-C rather than Apple’s proprietary Lightning connector.

Much like updates in the past, the new phones will also have an improved camera, including updated lenses and an improved optical zoom on the Pro model. The iPhone 15 is expected to use the same A16 processor as the current model, but it will be a 3-nanometer chip, which will be noticeably faster.

The iPhone 15 is expected to debut at a yet-to-be-announced Apple event in September.
