Apple is about to launch four new iPhones, two new Watches and maybe more besides. The launch of the iPhone 15 is the biggest event in Apple’s year, and could bring extra controversy this year, given a widely rumoured higher price and new charging port at the bottom of the phone. Alongside those updates, Apple is rumoured to be planning new charging technology, faster chips, better battery life and design tweaks for the higher-end, Pro versions of the phone. In all, there is expected to be four versions of the iPhone 15: the base model, the iPhone 15 Plus, the Pro and Pro Max. In addition to those new products, Apple is widely expected to update both the normal and Ultra version of the Apple Watch. They are expected to receive small updates, with the possible introduction of new chip technology. The AirPods may also feature in the event. They are also expected to receive an update to swap the Lightning charging port in the bottom for USB-C – beginning the process of getting rid of a charging technology that has been used for more than a decade in Apple’s most popular products. Black Mirror is returning to our screens for a new series in June - get hyped. It has been four years since fans of the dystopian drama were last treated to a taste of the anthology TV series and 12 since it first aired in the UK so safe to say, its return has been long awaited. But since it first graced our screens in 2011, a lot has changed in the world. Especially in these seven instances where the show was just a bit too on the nose... 1. PM has sex with a pig In season one of the show, a kidnapper demands that the prime minister, Michael Callow, has sex with a pig on live television to secure the safe return of a British royal family member. While this certainly did not happen in real life, it sounded a bit like Piggate - a claim that surfaced in 2015 that, during his university years, former prime minister David Cameron inserted his penis into a dead pig's mouth at a party. 2. People ride bikes for tokens In another season two classic, Black Mirror writer Charlie Brooker imagines a world where people ride stationary bikes for a virtual currency used to buy essentials. Today in Paris's station Gare Du Nord, people can ride bikes to generate power to charge their phones while they wait for their trains. 3. AI versions of deceased loved ones In season two episode Be Right Back, a woman brings her dead boyfriend back to life (kind of) by getting an android version of him, which learns his speech patterns by using his social media posts and online communications Last year Amazon revealed an experimental Alexa feature that allows the app to mimic the voices of users' dead relatives. 4. Joke politicians go viral The Waldo Moment sees a satirical computer-animated bear become a politician. Now we could resort to some rubbish satire of our own and say all the politicians we have in the House of Commons are no better than cartoon bears but that would be cheap. What is the case is that joke candidates like Count Binface and other representatives from the Monster Raving Loony Party frequently outperform fringe candidates in by-elections that take place in the UK nowadays. 5. People rate their social interactions In season three, an episode called Nosedive sees people rate all of their social interactions on a five-star scale which then go on to form a person's socioeconomic status. This is quite similar to people rating each other on Uber and swiping across each other on dating apps like Hinge and Bumble if you ask us. Tracking health through tablets In Arkangel, a season four episode, Marie implants her three-year-old daughter with an Arkangel system which monitors her health, vision and hearing via a tablet computer. It is not too dissimilar to the rise of Apple Watches and FitBits which people use to obsess over their resting heart rate, sleep score and step count. 7. The rise of dating apps In Hang the DJ, people use an electronic device called "Coach" which chooses their partners and the duration of their relationship. Nowadays there is always a new dating app every other week promising to find people love and happiness in different ways. So it is safe to say Black Mirror really had its finger on the pulse when envisioning a not-too-distant future. We can't wait to see what phenomena the next few episodes will predict. Sam Altman might still return to OpenAI after his ouster from the company, Microsoft chief Satya Nadella hinted. Chaos erupted at OpenAI on Friday as the company’s board abruptly fired its founder and chief Mr Altman, saying it “no longer has confidence in his ability to continue leading OpenAI”. Later, hundreds of the ChatGPT company’s employees threatened to quit unless its board resigned. When asked on Monday whether Mr Altman would join Microsoft, that has invested billions in the ChatGPT company, Mr Nadella said he was “open to both options”. “Look, that is for the OpenAI board and management and the employees to choose,” he told CNBC. “We obviously want Sam and Greg to have a fantastic home if they’re not going to be at OpenAI,” the Microsoft chief said. “We chose to explicitly partner with OpenAI and we want to continue to do so, and obviously, that depends on the people of OpenAI staying there or coming to Microsoft,” Mr Nadella had said. Microsoft later officially announced it was hiring Mr Altman and OpenAI co-founder Greg Brockman, who resigned on Friday. “Extremely excited to share the news that Sam Altman and Greg Brockman, together with colleagues, will be joining Microsoft to lead a new advanced AI research team,” Mr Nadella said in a post on X. “We look forward to moving quickly to provide them with the resources needed for their success,” he said. Mr Altman’s sacking was followed by about 500 staff at the company demanding the board’s resignation and the reinstatement of their dismissed boss. The employees signed a letter demanding OpenAI’s board resign and reinstate Mr Altman, claiming the decision to oust him jeopardised the company’s work. The letter was reportedly signed by several senior staff at OpenAI. Mira Murati, the company’s chief technology officer who was appointed as the interim chief following Mr Altman’s exit, was one of the signatories. Another signatory, Ilya Sutskever, the company’s chief scientist and one of the board members, expressed “deep regret” over the decision to remove Mr Altman. Employees at the company’s headquarters reportedly refused to attend an emergency all-hands meeting with new OpenAI boss Emmett Shear that was scheduled on Sunday. Some had responded to a Slack announcement with a middle-finger emoji, according to reports. Mr Nadella also said “it’s clear something has to change around the governance” at OpenAI. “We’ll have a good dialogue with their board on that, and walk through that as that evolves,” he said. Mr Altman said on X that his “top priority” remains to “ensure OpenAI continues to thrive”. “We are committed to fully providing continuity of operations to our partners and customers,” the ousted tech boss said on Monday. “We have more unity and commitment and focus than ever before.
