LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: ‘The View’ co-hosts are no strangers to controversies or getting mocked on the internet. Whether it is Alyssa Farah Griffin, Sunny Hostin, Ana Navarro, Sunny Hostin, Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, or Sara Haines, each co-host has been on the receiving end of some mockery on the internet. Luckily, Haines, Behar, and Goldberg are not very active on social media, which helps them stay away from negative comments.
However, Navarro frequently posts about her personal life, as well as her work and sometimes, even politics. Navarro is a member of the Republican Party and doesn’t shy away from expressing her opinions on it when it comes to ‘The View’. Most recently, the co-host took to Instagram and Twitter to post a meme about gun violence and gay marriage, which didn’t sit too well with social media users.
What was the meme?
Navarro shared the meme on Twitter and Instagram, where she has 2 million and 724K followers, respectively. The host of 'The View' received backlash for it. The meme read, “Selling gays a cake is participating in marriage, but selling a gun to a shooter isn’t participating in murder?” Navarro’s post on both platforms was captioned, “??♀️??♀️??♀️.”
It should come as no surprise that this post by Navarro received a lot of traction, with close to 2,000 comments on Instagram, and close to 19,000 retweets on Twitter. Navarro has managed to land on the mockery side of the internet, and it doesn’t look like a pleasant place to be.
‘Pretty dumb comparison’
Some users on the internet responded to Navarro with an explanation of why she’s wrong as one tweet read, “Except if the seller sells the gun to a person who says they are buying it to commit murder, the seller will go to jail as an accessory. Your meme is not very thought out.” One user wrote, “The issue isn't "selling gays a cake." the issue is creating a cake with messages that are contrary to the values of the cake designer. But you know that, and prefer to misstate the issue because, with an honest take, you'd be shown as wrong.”
While some went the explanation route, others were quick to label her and the comparison "dumb". One user tweeted, “Wow...you are really dumb.” Another user wrote, “That's a weird flex yo. Pretty dumb comparison.”
Nevertheless, people simply couldn’t get over Navarro comparing gun violence with gay marriages as one tweeted, “Worst analogy comparison ever.” One said, “Someone take this woman’s phone away.”
