Thousands of crude 'penis fish' wash up on beach giving locals the willies
Thousands of 'Penis Fish' have been found on a beach… giving locals the willies. The rude-looking marine creatures appeared after a heavy storm. The pink wrigglers were about 10 inches in length. They freaked out locals in Río Grande, southern Argentina, on the afternoon of 17 July. The species are called Urechis Unicinctus, but they are also dubbed the 'Penis Fish' due to their phallic appearance. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Despite their nickname, the creatures are actually a type of spoonworm. Their other nickname is 'The Fat Innkeeper Worm'. They create U-shaped burrows in sand or mud that are then left for other animals to move into, hence the use of ‘innkeeper’ in its moniker. They are eaten by sharks and seagulls. They usually live underground but are brought to the surface during strong storms, leaving them exposed to predators. Evidence of their U-shaped burrows dates back over 300 million years. The worms, which can live up to 25 years, are a common delicacy in countries such as South Korea, Japan and China where they are eaten raw or cooked in a variety of different styles. They are said to have a chewy texture and are surprisingly sweet, often served with a savoury sauce made from sesame oil or vinegar with gochujang. Have your say in our news democracy. Verified AOC account causes confusion after Elon Musk 'crush' admission
Verified AOC account causes confusion after Elon Musk 'crush' admission
A verified Twitter account related to Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, also known as AOC, has caused confusion after the account tweeted that she had a crush on Elon Musk. The account, which has over 90,000 followers, does state it is a parody account, which is required if the user has paid for Twitter Blue and is pretending to be another individual or company, as per Twitter’s rules. However, because the Twitter display name is so long - Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Press Release (Parody) - sometimes the “parody” can be cut off, especially if the tweet has been quote retweeted. Which makes confusion much more likely. On Monday, the account tweeted: “This might be the wine talking, but I’ve got a crush on @elonmusk”. The tweet has over 50,000 likes, and now has a community note letting viewers know that the account is a parody to try and clear up confusion. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter The tweet came as a surprise to many who thought it was an official AOC account, seeing as the Congresswoman has publicly criticised Musk on multiple occasions. Musk himself even replied to the tweet with a simple fire emoji. Many didn’t get the joke at first, with a lot of Elon fans/AOC haters seemingly getting annoyed at the fact that AOC would want to date Musk. Others criticised the account’s existence all together, saying that it was rooted in the right’s misogyny and hatred towards AOC: This is not the first time the parody account has gained a lot of attention (and confusion). Previously government officials from Ted Cruz to Laura Loomer have interacted with the account not knowing it was a parody. Have your say in our news democracy. Apple Watch users say battery is mysteriously draining far too quickly
Apple Watch users say battery is mysteriously draining far too quickly
Apple is working to fix for a mysterious and significant battery problem in the latest version of the operating system for its Watch, a report has claimed. Across a variety of forums including Apple’s own support pages, users have reported that their Watches are rapidly losing their charge. Some users report that even the Apple Watch Ultra – which is intended to run for up to 36 hours thanks to its larger case and battery – can fully use all its charge in three hours. The issue appears specific to be the latest update, numbered WatchOS 10.1. That arrived in late October and brought changes including the addition of the new Apple Watch’s headline feature. Now the company is reportedly working on an update that should fix those problems, according to an internal memo seen by Macrumors. Apple has not publicly confirmed that it is working on the update or when it might arrive. Apple has seemingly looked to fix at least some of the problems already. In the recently released iOS 17.1 update for the iPhone, it said that it had addressed “increased power consumption” when the two devices are paired, but that appears not to have fully fixed the issue. Apple is currently testing WatchOS 10.2, which might not be released for months. But the company sometimes pushes out smaller and less substantial updates to address bugs and other problems such as the the phantom battery drain. The issue might also be related to specific apps. Some users reported that uninstalling the app “MobyFace” – which allows people to customise their watch faces – helped stop the battery draining. Specific apps have caused problems for Apple devices in the past, presumably as a result of a conflict between the software and the devices operating system. Amid widespread reports that new iPhone 15s were getting hotter than expect last month, for instance, Apple suggested that at least part of the problem was with Instagram, though it was also able to fix some of those issues with a software update.
