As vendors release cutting-edge monitors that cost north of $1,000, Dell is launching several new sub-$500 displays that still pack some high-end features.
The Alienware AW2724HF and AW2724DM are both are gaming-focused displays with 27-inch screens. The AW2724HF is selling for $459.99 and is designed for serious and esports gamers who want an extremely high refresh rate of 360Hz and a 0.5-millisecond gray-to-gray response time. Another neat perk is the retractable headset hanger on the side.
However, the monitor only has a 1080p screen resolution through its IPS panel. In addition, it's certified as compatible with AMD FreeSync Premium but not Nvidia’s G-Sync. But the AW2724HF gives consumers an alternative to Alienware’s 500Hz 25-inch gaming monitor, the AW2524H, which costs nearly double at $829.
The second monitor, the AW2724DM, is retailing for $399.99. The display’s refresh rate can only reach 165Hz or 180Hz when overclocked. The gray-to-gray response time is also a little slower at 1ms. But on the flip side, the product features an IPS panel with a higher screen resolution at 1440p. In addition, the monitor is certified for AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and Nvidia G-Sync.
Alienware AW2724DM“The AW2724DM was created for the more causal gamer who wants an ultra-smooth premium gaming experience,” Dell said, adding that the monitor has been rated at HDR 600. Unfortunately, it doesn't feature the retractable headset hanger.
For consumers on a tighter budget, Dell is preparing another pair of monitors under $300 that will arrive later this month. The company is marketing them “for gamers who want to experience immersive and fast-paced action gameplay without breaking the bank.”
G2724DThe first, the G2724D, is slated to go on sale June 22 for $299. This 27-inch display offers very similar specs to the $399 AW2724DM, with a 165Hz refresh rate, 1440p resolution, and 1ms gray-to-gray response time. However, it drops the Alienware branding for a more toned-down hardware design while featuring only an HDR400 display. The monitor also ditches the three USB ports for connectivity.
G2524HThe second monitor, the G2524H, will arrive on June 27 for $249.99. It features a smaller screen size at 25 inches and a lower resolution at 1080p. But the refresh rate has been increased to 280Hz when overclocked and the gray-to-gray response time is elevated to 0.5ms.
“Both monitors feature a Fast IPS panel together with AMD FreeSync Premium technology, Nvidia G-Sync compatibility and VESA AdaptiveSync certification to provide smooth, stutter-free and tear-free gameplay,” Dell added. “They also flaunt a fully height-adjustable ergonomic stand and gaming-inspired design ready to fit any gaming lifestyle.” Stay tuned for our reviews.
