TONTITOWN, ARKANSAS: Amy Duggar King, who is a cousin of Josh Duggar, recently revealed that she made attempts to reach out to Anna Duggar, Josh's wife, amidst the ongoing scandals involving Josh and his child pornography conviction. However, Amy claims that she never received a response from Anna, whom she described as a "broken" mother-of-seven.
In an interview with People, Amy, aged 36, expressed her efforts to establish contact with the embattled wife of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar's eldest child. She disclosed that she had sent text messages and emails in an attempt to reach out to Anna, emphasizing that she genuinely wanted to offer support.
“I don't know if her phone's being monitored. I don't know if she's turned it off [and] she's gotten a new one. I've tried on Instagram, I've tried on Twitter. She wants nothing to do with it at all, and that's her decision”, Amy continued.
‘Honestly, it sucks’
Amy further highlighted her understanding of Anna's challenging situation, as she is a mother of seven children while her husband serves a sentence of more than 12 years on charges related to child pornography.
“I understand she has a lot of kids, and I understand that she's in a very broken place”, Amy said. “I don't want to speak for her. I'm sure that is just heartbreaking, but I also don't necessarily think she sees it yet. I think it's going to take a really long time. And if she ever does reach out, I am here for her”.
Amy Duggar King, a reality TV personality, shared that she had discussed with her husband Dillon the idea of offering a room to Anna Duggar and her children when news about Josh's sexual misconduct first emerged. The scandal involving Josh has permanently tarnished the once-wholesome public image of the Duggar family.
“I offered it, and that's really all I can do is just hope and pray that she opens her eyes. That's all you can do”, Amy explained of her unreciprocated efforts to strike up a dialogue with Anna. “Honestly, it sucks. It just sucks because I want to be there and I want to help, and it doesn't have to involve cameras or fame or anything. It's just family reaching out to family. Unfortunately, she doesn't see it”.
‘Shell of a woman’
Josh, 25, received a sentence of 12-and-a-half years in prison in May 2022 after being found guilty in December 2021 of possessing and receiving child pornography. His legal troubles began in April 2021 when Homeland Security conducted a raid on his now-closed used car dealership and seized his office computer.
In 2015, it was revealed that Josh had paid for an account on AshleyMadison.com, a dating platform catering to individuals seeking extramarital affairs, after the website's user data was hacked and made public. That same year, a police report surfaced alleging that Josh had inappropriately touched five underage girls, four of whom were his sisters, between 2002 and 2003.
Following Josh's sentencing, an anonymous source informed The Sun that Anna, despite being described as a "shell of a woman", had decided to stay with Josh and that they would not be pursuing a divorce. The source added that Anna still firmly believed in Josh's innocence and considered it all a setup. Reportedly, Anna had to sell the couple's dream house due to Josh's legal troubles and currently resides with her children on Jim Bob and Michelle's property in Arkansas.
